New Comic Book Wednesday: 9/30/15

Pick of the week: Zodiac Starforce #2- Written by Kevin Panetta, illustrated by Paulina Ganucheau, and published by Dark Horse
A brand new book about a squad of magical girls! AHHH! I was way too excited to pick up the first issue of this very Sailor Moon inspired book last month, and I was just as excited to read the second issue earlier today. The story is already picking up so much momentum and the characters are getting me right in the heart guts! Four highschool girls named Emma, Kim, Savi, and Molly make up the Zodiac Starforce. They've been drifting apart, but when they realize darkness is afoot at their highschool, they decide to band together once more to kick evil's butt. Each girl represents a different zodiac sign, and they have an awesome transformation sequence and sweet battle armor. One of the girls, Emma, gets touched by a creature from the dark realm Nephos and the mark it leaves starts spreading all over her rapidly. The girls decide to open a portal and visit the goddess Astra who granted them their powers. Astra informs them that Emma's situation is dire, and that everything is bound to get more dangerous now. The girls return to their world, discouraged. In this issue, the darkness is growing more rampant and the girls are scrambling to find a solution! At the same time, there are lots of other things going on. Things that normal highschoolers deal with like stupid boyfriends, crushes, mean girls, etc. This series is super adorable and relatable. Y'know, besides the part about transforming into a magical warrior. These girls have real problems, and real friendships, and they will tug at your heartstrings from the get go! Most definitely pick this one up if you can. The first issue shouldn't be too hard to find in shops, and this one just came out yesterday, so now is the time my friends!

Convention Time C'mon Grab Your Friends!: Palmcon

Me and James stopped by Palmcon last weekend! We weren't planning on going, but we spontaneously decided to because it was only 15 minutes away from his house. It's a relatively small convention that has only been going on for only a couple years. You can find out more about it here if you want! Admission was only $13.50. They had a lot of artist exhibitors, some of which were friends of James so it was fun to chat with them! It was nice to go to a smaller convention, because sometimes big ones like Comic Con or Megacon can be overwhelming and a bit stressful! I had fun just walking around and looking at toys, although I wish I'd worn a cosplay! Maybe next year.

The only things I took home with me were these Sailor Moon and Totoro keychains! Although I was super tempted to buy those Elite Series Force Awakens figures. It was a fun time, we'll definitely go back next year!

What I Wore: Totoro

This is probably my new favorite article of clothing! I know I said the same thing about the soot sprite dress, but just look at it! It's covered in acorns, mushrooms, leaves, and totoros. Now is a great time to be a Ghibli fan with all of the beautiful merchandise being put out. This dress is made by Her Universe and you can buy it here! My bag is from ASOS a few years ago and is no longer available, but here is a similar one. My belt and shoes are from Forever 21!

Batman Day

Happy Batman day! DC has been doing an annual Batman Day for the past couple years, and this year was more awesome than ever. As it continues to grow in popularity, the goodies and events do too! The holiday celebrates our beloved Dark Knight in all of his glory. Thousands of comic book shops, book stores, and libraries participate and have cool things going on. We went to Barnes & Noble where most Batman and related books were 20% off, and they were giving out all this sweet stuff! The comic book is a Barnes & Noble exclusive cover of Batman Endgame #1. I'm not sure how many different variant covers there were, but I know it's quite a few. Our local comic book shop was giving out copies with their exclusive cover too, but we didn't get a chance to stop by! That blueprint is the schematic for the new robotic Batman suit that commissioner Gordon wears. I'm like ninety-nine percent sure the little mask with the punch out eyes is a Green Arrow mask, but whatever, it was free! They also gave out bookmarks and temporary tattoos. AND at some select stores, amazing DC artists such as Jim Lee, Grant Morrison, Scott Snyder, Cameron Stewart, etc were doing meet & greets and signings. It was wonderful to see a bunch of kids at the store sitting around reading Batman comics and getting excited! I hope DC keeps this going for many years to come.

Friday Favorites: Bats and Cats

It's been a couple weeks since my last friday favorites post! James and I have been so busy working on multiple projects that there is barely enough time to breathe! On the bright side, I haven't felt this creatively driven and inspired in a very long time. Which is great! This week I've been super into everything Batman/Batgirl/Catwoman so I figured I'd make that the little theme for this post. So many cute things to share!

1. Awesome black cat mask necklace. 2. Batman cowl faux knee high tights! 3. Very Batgirl inspired boots. 4. Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service backpack! 5. Batman mini purse.

1. Yellow peter pan collar blouse! 2. Sailor Moon motorcycle club tee. 3. Puppycat and eggplant blouse. 4. Spider Gwen 3/4 sleeve cardigan! 5. I Knead You cat baseball tee. 6. Captain Marvel knit sweater!

1. Bobs Burgers pop vinyls are coming soon! 2. Iron Giant pop vinyl available to pre-order. 3. Star Wars Smuggler's Bounty subscription box! 4. Harry Potter house themed book sets. 5. Floating lilypad tea infuser. 6. Star Wars themed cookie cutters. 7. Kitty cat measuring cup set!

What I Wore: Soot Sprites!

I am ridiculously obsessed with this dress! It's covered in soot sprites. SOOT SPRITES! I have been a major fan of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's work since I was about 9 and saw Spirited Away in theaters with my mom. It was so incredibly magical and other-worldly, like nothing I'd ever seen before. It changed my life and influenced me to think differently and follow an artistic path, hoping one day I could make a movie like that. You can see some of my Ghibli toy collection in this post! You can also see my Ghibli logo tattoo peeking out on my arm, which I got last December. It's my favorite. When I saw this dress I immediately snagged it! I'ts made by Her Universe but is available at Hot Topic! There are also a couple Totoro style ones, which I also picked up and will post about soon! For anyone wondering, my bag is from Forever 21 last year, but here is a similar one. My hairbow is from H&M and you can find it here!

New Comic Book Wednesday: 9/23/15

Pick of the week: Over The Garden Wall #2 - Written by Pat Mchale, illustrated by Jim Campbell, and published by Kaboom!
This series is amazing so far! I absolutely LOVE Over The Garden Wall. It's one of my all time favorite cartoons, and it's just an absolutely beautifully told story. I don't even wish the show were longer, because it's perfect exactly the way it is. This series gives us a look into some backstory of some of the more minor characters, as well as little short stories about Wirt, Greg, and Beatrice's adventures between events in the show. This particular issue is about Fred the Horse and The Highway Man from the Tavern episode! The Highway Man has some hidden secrets that I don't think anybody was expecting. It's freakin' awesome to get just a tiny bit more story out of this wonderful cartoon, and now comic book.

Pick of the week: Invincible #123 - Written by Robert Kirkman, illustrated by Ryan Ottley, and published by Image.
So this book has been going on for quite awhile now! This series has a special place in my heart because it's one of the first that I read when I started discovering the realm of comics. At the beginning, this book was about a teenage boy named Mark Grayson in his senior year of highschool desperately wanting to gain the superpowers he knows he should have. His mother is a human, but his father is from another planet called Viltrum and has powers similar to Superman. Mark inevitably gets his powers and joins a team of other teen heroes, consisting of Atom Eve, Duplikate, Robot, and Rexplode. They have normal problems that teenagers have and fight bad guys in their spare time. Then, Mark finds out things about his father that change everything. 100 something issues later and things are entirely different and completely crazy. There is space travel, bug people, giant talking dinosaurs, invasions, the world ends, giant monsters, cloning, alternate dimensions, and so on and so forth. This book is SO much fun and such a feat of storytelling. It's never boring. I feel like I know these characters like I know my best friend. Mark has loved and lost, and grown so much over the series. It's incredibly real and packed with emotion and action at the same time. This issue was bittersweet because it's actually the last one before the series gets REBOOTED! I guess I understand why they're doing it. Without spoiling anything, Mark and Atom Eve have changed so much and the problems they used to have are kind of distant now. I suppose it's time for some new dilemmas and action. Seriously though, this is my absolute favorite superhero book. It was a blast picking up all the trades and reading them one after another. There are 21 of them! If you'd like to take on reading a long and exciting series, Invincible is perfect for you!

Force Friday Haul!

It's officially been a week since Force Friday so I figured I'd do a little haul post! As I'm sure most of y'all know, September 4th aka Force Friday was the day that most of the new merchandise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released world wide! Super exciting. But are any of you guys as shocked as I am that they didn't release a new trailer, too? I was totally expecting one. Anyhow, on Force Friday, lots of places opened up at midnight to premier the new merchandise! We chose to go to Toys R Us first. I'm glad we did. There were only about 40 people waiting in line in total, and we were about 5th. They were giving away goodies, and Geoffrey the giraffe was there. That was pretty hilarious. It was very organized, and pretty well stocked, but people did snatch up all the best stuff pretty quickly. Then we went to Walmart, where they had free Star Wars cupcakes! It wasn't as well stocked, but then again we were an hour late. The next morning we hit up Target, the Disney Store, and Hot Topic! I figured I'd share the awesome things we were able to pick up. I'm totally not allowing myself to spend any more money for awhile on Star Wars merchandise, that's for sure! Well, at least until I see the next mind blowingly awesome thing.

The grey top with the metallic lettering is from Target and the BB-8 shirt is from Walmart! The grey one is my favorite because it's actually a really soft and flowy high-lo top with a super flattering neckline.

As for the toys, we got them all at Toys R Us when it opened at midnight! We got super lucky to find everything we wanted. I was mostly after the pop vinyls, while James wanted the black series. Over the past week, we've seen plenty of pops at Barnes & Noble and Hot Topic, too! Black series seems to be sold out everywhere, though. We bought two Kylo's, one for each of us! That little commemorative lego brick next to him was given to us at Toys R Us for attending the midnight release. The back is dated September 4th 2015, so that's pretty neat!

The big poster of most of the new characters is one of my favorite finds! Nobody at Toys R Us seemed to notice the box of posters, so I snagged one. Who doesn't love a giant Star Wars poster in their room?! The Kylo Ren poster was actually another freebie given to us by Toys R Us and the paper is super glossy and nice. The one of Captain Phasma and the other stormtroopers is actually a tear out from the Kylo Ren coloring book below it! It also came with all those stickers. Only 5$ at Barnes & Noble!

LOOK AT THE MUG!! AHH! The Kylo Ren mug is gigantic and amazing, and I got my hands on one of the very last ones at Target. And of course, we couldn't resist picking up a Kylo Ren lightsaber at the Disney Store. The only thing I wish I'd gotten that I didn't was the Kylo Ren mask from the Disney Store that says phrases from the movie. It was super exciting playing with it in the store and hearing his voice and some lines for the first time! It was such a fun and exciting weekend! We got so many amazing things, and got super lucky on multiple occasions. Seeing everybody's excitement is just incredibly magical. I'm glad I get to experience all of this firsthand. What did you guys get? Or what are you planning on getting? Let me know in the comments!

New Comic Book Wednesday: 9/9/15

Pick of the week: Star Wars Shattered Empire #1-Written by Greg Rucka, illustrated by Marco Checchetto, and published by Marvel.
THIS is what I've been waiting for! It's the first comic book series to take place after the events of Return of The Jedi with a story leading up to The Force Awakens. The book begins with the final scenes of the destruction of the rebuilt Death Star. A young rebel pilot named Bey is introduced, and we begin to follow her story. We also see many familiar characters such as Luke, Han, Chewie, and Lando as they all celebrate the victory over the empire along with the ewoks on Endor. As they learn that there is still an empire holdout on the opposite side of Endor, we are introduced to more new characters! Bey is searching for her husband Kes, another rebel pilot, and he has a very recognizable last name that involves a major character from The Force Awakens. I won't say who, but I definitely got way too excited and might have screamed and woken up the cat when I read it! The empire has fallen, but it doesn't mean clean up is done. There's still a lot of work to do and enemies to take down, and that's where the book leaves off! I loved it, but it's only going to be 4 issues long. So, 3 more and then it's over. Boo. Absolutely pick this one up, because it'll most definitely hold you over until The Force Awakens comes out in December!

Friday Favorites: Force Awakens

This is my first friday favorites post and it was SO much fun to make! I find cute things on the internet all the time, and I'm excited to be able to share my discoveries on here. So, I'm sure pretty much all of you know that today was Force Friday! Which means tons of new Star Wars merchandise including all of the new characters, droids, etc from The Force Awakens were released at midnight. I will make a separate post about our adventures today, and I purposefully included a bunch of sweet Star Wars items in this post, in honor of the occasion!

1.Beautiful set of Han & Leia inspired rings! 2. Super rad classic stormtrooper ring. 3. Gold rebel alliance stud earrings! 4. Adorable R2 shoulder bag. 5. Knee length lightsaber skirt! 6. Raglan tee featuring Rey from The Force Awakens. 7. Kylo Ren mug! 8. App and voice controlled BB-8 droid! 9. The Force Awakens pop vinyl collection.

1. Super cute book shaped messenger bag. 2. Star shaped golden doorbell plate! 3. Platform 9 3/4 alarm clock. 4. Luna from Sailor Moon iphone case. 5. Puppycat wallet from Bee and Puppycat cartoon and comic! 6. Cat mom mug!

1. Adorable blue ice cream cone dress! 2.Comic page print dress. 3. Red nautical style bow dress! 4. Spider Gwen zip up hoodie! 5. Rainbow Puppycat sweater with a bow! 6. Sailor Mars scout in training tank.

What I Wore: You R2 Cute

Of course I simply had to plan at outfit for Force Friday events in advance! We are meeting up with friends and going to Toys R Us and Walmart and I am way too excited! Star Wars has been a passion of mine since I saw the midnight release of Episode I with my parents when I was a kid. Since then, I've grown to love the original trilogy far more than the prequels, but that's beside the point! Star Wars movies are how I discovered my love for sci-fi, and it's such an immersive and fantastic universe. This super cute and stretchy R2 tank I actually picked up at a convention, but it's also available here! My blue circle skirt is from Modcloth a few years back and is sadly no longer available, but here is a similar one from H&M! My tights are also from Modcloth. My cardigan is from Forever 21. My necklace is handmade by yours truly and my helmet is an EFX prop replica which you can find here!

New Comic Book Wednesday: 9/2/15

Pick of the week: Plutona #1 -Written by Jeff Lemire, illustrated by Emi Lenox, and published by Image.
The best book this week was an clear choice. This is the 1st issue out of 4! I wish it were going to be longer, because the story and characters are so wonderful. Plutona is the name of the strongest superhero in Metro City. When she disappears from the sky and goes missing, a group of kids that go to school together (some friends and some enemies) find her collapsed in the woods. I'm aboslutely in love with the art and colors, and Jeff Lemire's writing is always is exceptional. With the combination of the beautiful artwork, unique character designs, and compelling story, I'm hooked. You should most definitely pick this one up!

Toy Time: Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars Figures

I've been super stoked about the Disney Infinity Star Wars figures since they were announced. Even though I don't own the game, these figures are perfect for collecting. They're so beautifully designed in a very comic-like way with such dynamic poses, and each one has it's own little stand! A couple days ago we were finally able to pick up a couple of them. We found Obi-wan and Yoda at Target, and many of the other figures are going to be exclusive to different specific stores. Some of them will also be specific to certain gaming systems, such as Wii or Playstation! Here's what I know so far.

So Luke and Leia are only going to be sold in a two pack starter kit and two pack play set! I'm assuming they are going to be available in many different places, because you can already pre-order them right here on amazon, but they aren't released until September 29th! Boo. Han is also available for pre-order and will be released at the same time. None of them are machine specific.

Apparently Boba Fett is going to be the hardest one to get our hands on! He's exclusive to the Star Wars Saga Bundle for Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 at launch, but then will also be released in early 2016 for all consoles. Darth Vader and Chewie are available for pre-order on amazon, target, etc and are released on September 29th, too!
Obi-wan is definitely already available in many different locations, and so are Aksoka Tano and Anakin! But they only come in a two pack starter kit and in a two pack play set. You can get it right here! Darth Maul won't be released until September 29th either, but he is also available for pre-order.

Kanan is a Walmart exclusive and is available now, so you can get him here. Sabine is exclusive to Target and is already available too! Yay! You can get her right here! Zeb is also available right now and is exclusive to GameStop. Last but not least, Ezra is also available as of right now, but exlusive to Toys R Us! Whew! Collecting things is certainly challenging at times. But that's what makes it fun, right?! It's like a treasure hunt except instead of gold or jewels it's for sweet action figures. AND guess what? There's a Force Awakens play set also confirmed to be released, too! Very little is known about it other than the fact that it is coming out on December 18th, to coincide with the release of the movie. I wonder when they'll be available for pre-order? I will be posting more about it as soon as I find out! Do any of you collect Disney Infinity figures? How or where do you display them? Please leave comments below, I'd love to know about your collections!
